Dude has some great rendering tips to help out with compositing. Called ID matte passes. I knew about them but this is the first I've seen how to do it in Mental Ray.

Another great site. Specifically the forums. They cover just about every piece of software related to animation you can think of. I get more solutions and tips from this site then even the official support pages for most software. Excellent galleries, works in progress, studio profiles, behind the scenes...
